Utah at Stanford, and Senior Day 25 Feb 2012

Bryan Adachi

Brian posts 29 shots to a Picasa gallery, a little action around the bench and on the floor, like this Amber jumper:

but primarily pictures of the senior celebration on the floor, like this one:

Scott Uyeno

Scott posts 38 shots to a Flickr set with lots of excellent North-end action pics like this of Chiney:

Click through for more, like Jos Tinkle being startled by an O-board. Also Scott had a good angle on the seniors entering with their families, as shown here:

Dave Cortesi

We posted 34 shots to a Smugmug gallery, with warmup shots, band shots, and North-end action like this of Bonnie getting a rebound:

From midcourt we didn't have a great angle on the seniors but postgame we got the families at Dallmar court, like this of Grace and her dad:

Baranduin Briggs

Baranduin posts to her Smugmug gallery, with crowd shots, player reactions, and action like this scary moment in the first half when Nneka was undercut going for a rebound and fell heavily:

And then for senior celebration, Baranduin got close-ups of the on-court presentations and also went over to Dallmar for the later program, getting some nice portraits like this of the Ogwumike sisters:

Michael Li

Michael posts a few shots to a Flickr set, with some action including that same moment of Nneka's fall; but most striking is this pre-game portrait of Jos Tinkle:

Colorado at Stanford, 23 February 2012

Michael Li

Michael comes in late with 20 shots in his Flickr gallery with, he says, "some great facial expressions from players on both teams." Which he did; be sure to see about halfway through the set a three-shot sequence of Chiney scoring, in which the progression of the faces on the bench players is priceless. But let us tease with yet another picture of Sara "Hustle" James skidding across the floor:

Bryan Adachi

Bryan, shooting from pretty much behind the home bench, posted 32 shots to a Picasa gallery with lots of action and people shots both, Sara sliding after the ball, Grace directing the game, and this of boxing-out in depth:

Scott Uyeno

Scott shot from his usual spot high in the North end and posted 38 shots to a Flickr set, with lots of images that show Nneka, Chiney, and Jos mixing it up in the chaotic melee under the basket. Speaking of chaotic...

David Cortesi

We shot in the first quarter from behind the North basket and then from mid-court, posting 16 pics to a Smugmug gallery, mostly action with Amber driving and Bonnie shooting, but especially this one demonstrating the Buffalo method of defense (note the arms):

Baranduin Briggs

Baranduin shoots from high in the South-East, monochrome in the first half and color in the second. She posted 41 excellent shots to her Smugmug gallery with tons of great action—you must click through to see #16, Amber defending Chuckie Jeffereys and #32, Sara sliding on her nose after the ball—but we'll feature this one, a wonderful bench shot with perfect control of depth-of-field:

Stanford at OU, 18 Feb 2012

Michael Li

Michael flew in to Eugene just in time for the game and posts 24 shots to a Flickr set. He writes, "I was too close to the court for good action shots, so I concentrated on atmosphere/people shots," like this one of Lindy counseling Amber:

And this iconic shot of The Duck,

but click that set link for some action with Jos and more atmosphere.

Dave Cortesi

We posted 18 shots to a Smugmug gallery with the pregame brunch, a bunch of people shooting threes, and this one of players saying, whoa, Chiney!:

Click the gallery link for more action including a two-shot sequence of Toni being fouled in a way that pretty well defines "hack."

Stanford at OSU, 16 February 2012

Dave Cortesi

We posted 16 pics to a Smugmug gallery, mostly action under the visitor basket, including this one of Jos grabbing one of 14 rebounds:

Photo Nerdinfo: The light at Gill Coliseum is very bright, a couple of stops brighter than Maples. However, the court floor is a strong yellow and the building is all bright orange and deep black. This combination drives a camera's auto white-balance completely bonkers. The Nikon D7000 has extensive white-balance controls and we got something fairly close to right on-site, but these pictures still needed a pretty severe tweak in Photoshop afterward. Using Nneka's kneepads (see above) as a mid-gray reference brought it pretty close, but there was, oddly, a greenish cast left. Is there magenta in those knees? Anyhoo, this is more or less what it looked like.

UCLA at Stanford, 12 February 2012

Baranduin Briggs

Baranduin posts 40-odd shots to her SmugMug gallery with lots of action shots of the "bigs" at work, Jeannette Pohlen and Hannah Donaghe, and this of "no-fear" Amber stealing a rebound from the much bigger Markel Walker:

Scott Uyeno

Scott posted 40-odd shots of North-end action to a Flickr set including this of the sisterly rebound:

Michael Li

Michael posted 18 shots to a Flickr set including a few action shots of Lindy, Toni and Jos buried in a scrum on the floor, but also some especially nice "people" shots including this engaging portrait of Pohlen and Donaghe in the stands:

David Cortesi

We posted a few shots to a Smugmug gallery, some nice action including that same sisterly rebound as Scott captured, and Mary Murphy post-game, but also this of the cheerleaders hitting the Bomp of "All Right Now.":

More?

Check back tomorrow, there might be more to see!

USC at Stanford, 9 February 2012

Dave Cortesi

We have a new lens (a Tamron F2.8 24-75mm zoom) and this was its first outing. Posted just 10 action shots to a SmugMug gallery—well, 9 actions shots and one of Mary Murphy's feet. The new lens gave us a very nice view of the tip-off:

Scott Uyeno

Scott posted 31 shots to a Flickr set including this nice shot of Toni driving in:

Baranduin Briggs

Baranduin posted 42 shots to her SmugMug gallery with lots of South basket action and some "goofy" ones (don't miss the opening shot of Chiney coming off the bench) but featuring this classic rebound reach:

Michael Li

Michael posts 14 shots to a Flickr set with shots of dollies, the USC bench, Lindy on defense, and this breakaway steal by Toni:

Stanford at UA, 4 Feb 2012

Dave Cortesi

Oof, according to Google Analytics, yesterday's post of ASU pics actually drove our visitor count down. Oh well, undaunted I took the 55mm lens down behind the bench and got 25 shots to post to our Smugmug gallery, which features, beside shadows and Butt shirts, rebounds from the first half and shooting from the second. Here's a rebound by Amber,

go to the gallery for more by Nneka, Jos, Toni; and, here's a layup by Erica,

see the gallery for similar by Jos, Chiney, Nneka. But ya know? the nicest shot in the whole set wasn't action at all, but this,

of Kate and Amber, after Amber came out for the last time in the game.

Stanford at ASU, 2 February 2012

David Cortesi

Our good lens is in for repair so we had to shoot at 55mm from halfway up the lower bowl—excellent seats for spectating from, actually; thanks Harriet!—. Also we suffered a lot of frozen-shutter-finger-itis—you know, when you say, Wow!!! and cheer, and then realize, wait, I shoulda had that picture? Despite all this we got a dozen or so adequate pictures to post to our Smugmug gallery. Let us feature this one of Nneka shooting and Kali Bennett defending:

...because it lets us say again what a good game Bennett played and how improved she is from prior years. If she hadn't been hurt twice—once by a bloody nose, once by a back spasm—and been off the floor most of the last 15 minutes, the score would have been a lot closer. Watch for her to make an impact in the tournament.

Other Wells Fargo Arena notes: the ASU crowd was very thin, compared to prior years when we remember this game being sold out. Disappointing. And, there wasn't another FBC photographer there (was there? speak up if you were), but there was this guy, who had some excellent looking photo gear and a media pass, but wasn't dressed like the usual pro photog...
