Stanford at ASU, 2 February 2012

Our good lens is in for repair so we had to shoot at 55mm from halfway up the lower bowl—excellent seats for spectating from, actually; thanks Harriet!—. Also we suffered a lot of frozen-shutter-finger-itis—you know, when you say, Wow!!! and cheer, and then realize, wait, I shoulda had that picture? Despite all this we got a dozen or so adequate pictures to post to our Smugmug gallery. Let us feature this one of Nneka shooting and Kali Bennett defending:

...because it lets us say again what a good game Bennett played and how improved she is from prior years. If she hadn't been hurt twice—once by a bloody nose, once by a back spasm—and been off the floor most of the last 15 minutes, the score would have been a lot closer. Watch for her to make an impact in the tournament.

Other Wells Fargo Arena notes: the ASU crowd was very thin, compared to prior years when we remember this game being sold out. Disappointing. And, there wasn't another FBC photographer there (was there? speak up if you were), but there was this guy, who had some excellent looking photo gear and a media pass, but wasn't dressed like the usual pro photog...
